The Advanced Technologist will perform organic characterization on samples from water and hydrocarbon process treatment programs using solvent extraction, Infrared spectroscopy and organic elemental analysis.

* Interpret IR spectra, access the organic composition, correlate with microbiological and inorganic data to identify source of deposition or contamination in the treatment system.

* Review results and prepare final analytical reports to field reps to provide solution / recommendation to customers.

* Assist laboratory technician in petroleum analysis.

* Review and validate analytical results for oil samples.

* Assist and direct laboratory technicians on day-to-day analysis and laboratory operation.

* Perform maintenance repair and troubleshoot problems on laboratory equipment.

* Track samples, projects or processes effectively and prioritizes based on business criticality.

* Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced technologists and technicians.

* Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments in the laboratories.

* Evaluate and recommend new analytical instruments.

* Conduct method development / improvement projects.

* Perform technical development effort including planning and execution of experimental approach, analyzing data, monitoring and communicating project status to deliver project goals and milestones.

* Provide technical product support, customer service and non-routine problem solving for above industrial applications.

* Provide general analytical support and technical consultation to field reps and technical engineers on organic and petroleum analysis related problems.

* Translate customer requirements and needs into unique technology solutions.

* Comply with ISO 2001 operating guideline and maintain EHS practice at VPP standard.

Qualifications

* BS or MS Degree in Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Material Science, or other chemistry discipline.

* At least one year of experience in Infrared Spectroscopy and spectral interpretation.

* At least one year of experience in analytical laboratory operation and instrumentation.

Desired

Familiar with petroleum analysis.

* 2+ years of Industrial experience.

* Expertise in industrial water treatment applications.

* Experience in LIMS (laboratory information management system) software's.

* Knowledge of hydrocarbon refining and processing.

* Experience in leading and completing technical projects.

* Strong interpersonal skills with ability to multi-task and handle diverse responsibilities and work independently in a fast paced environment.

* Excellent conceptual problem solving skills with ability to consider overall problem, identify opportunities and implement major changes.

* Self-motivating and ability to work independently and in a team.

* Strong oral and written communication skills and able to effectively communicate ideas in both a research and customer environment.

* Ability to generates alternative solutions to problems and takes reasonable risks using advanced scientific concepts for product and process innovation.

* Strong environmental, health and safety ethics.
General

Responsibilities Continued:

* The Advanced Technologist for Organic Deposit Analysis will direct laboratory technicians to perform daily deposit and oil sample analysis.

* Interpret IR spectra and prepare reports to characterize the organic components of solid samples from corrosion, fouling and contamination in boiler, cooling, wastewater or hydrocarbon process systems.

* Learn and apply Lean Six Sigma processes and tools for solving problems and to develop high quality, innovative technology solutions that meet customer requirements and needs.

* Consult the field reps and engineers on solving these problems.

* Provide training and coaching to laboratory technicians.

* Perform repair and maintenance on laboratory equipment.
